When the dust settled after the 11/3/20 election, it was red dust. Montana went red and Custer County went “redder” yet. The Trumpster won 57% of the Montana vote and 72% of the Custer County ballots. We could go right down the ballot and see that nearly every race had virtually the same percentages at the state level and then at the county level. It was uncanny. It seems to me that Trump clearly had “coat tails” in this election. Here is most of the list for your viewing pleasure.
Montana Custer county
Trump 57% 72%
Daines 55% 68%
Rosendale 56% 70%
Gianforte 54% 68%
Jacobsen 60% 73%
Knudsen 58% 73%
Downing 55% 69%
Arntzen 52% 65%
O’Donnell 63% 72%
Shea Yes 80% Yes 75%
McKinnon 57% 66%
Celander 61%
I’ve left off several races that were not contested just for brevity.
C-46 77% 76%
C-47 75% 73%
CI-118 58% 55%
LR 130 51% 56%
I-190 57% Yes 48% Yes
I think that it is fair to say that when issues are clearly laid out to our Custer County voters, free enterprise, responsible gun use, educational choice and defense of the unborn child are priorities.
Let me end this with a short observation. Kristi Celander won the primary by just about the same percentage as she won in the general election. I’ve never seen a race flip from the primary to the general despite a bunch of campaigning by the candidates. Just an observation.
