Our Custer County Commissioners recently voted to take away our ‘choice’ to vote at the polls or via mail, as an absentee ballot. Even after huge crowds of citizens gathered at two different commissioner meetings demanding a re-vote, since their initial decision was based on two very pertinent pieces of information, they STILL decided that it was best to do mail-in voting only. That means EVERYONE in Custer County will be receiving a mail-in ballot for the upcoming federal election. NOTE: you can still go to the courthouse and vote in person, thus reducing the chances of fraud and ensuring fewer people see and touch your ballot. You may also complete the mail-in ballot and hand carry it to the courthouse.
It is very important that we each make absolutely sure that our voter records are completely correct. The Montana Secretary of State has a website page with great voter information. It’s called My Voter Page.
You can easily use this service to check the following:
- If you are registered to vote
- Your voter registration address
- Location and directions to your county election office
- If you are on the list to have ballots mailed to you
- The status of your mailed ballot
- A sample ballot
NOTE: after you mail back or preferably walk your ballot into the Custer County Courthouse, the My Voter Page website will allow you to check on the STATUS of your ballot. Once election officials have received and processed your ballot, the website will confirm that YOUR BALLOT has been counted.
